It’s been a while. I know. But here I am. In Swakop. In a light summer dress. Yes it became warm. A heatwave hit Namibia and even the coastline warmed up. While rain showers made the country happy and rivers started flowing the happy summer colours are coming back.
It’s been now over a month since my cousin was here for a visit. It’s always nice to have family and friends coming over to visit. Showing interest in my life and sharing experiences together.
So did we. Even though it was still cold we went out on the ocean on a dolphin cruise which I’ve only done in my first days in Swakop over three years ago. Prepared for the cold on the ocean we were able to enjoy the cruise on the catamaran and were lucky enough to watch the dolphins for over than half an hour playing around the boat.
In the afternoon skydiving was on the list. Dawie taking my cousin on a tandem jump with the plan that I come in and dock. Can’t remember when I was last so nervous on a jump. But I really wanted to get that right. And fly with my cousin through the air. And I made it. What a special moment!
Found my new hobby. Stand up paddling. On the ocean. Love it! My favorite ones are the early morning sessions when nobody is in the water and the dolphins come into the mole and play around my little surf board. First time it happened I was so excited I almost fell off the board. The second time about 10 dolphins were swimming around me jumping about a meter next to me out of the water. Incredible. I was looking around, on the beach or the walk way if anyone witnessed the spectacle because I couldn’t believe what just happened. Love it.
And then what did I mention. Rain. Yes it rained as well in Swakop. Not much. But the country got in some parts so much rain that some rivers started flowing. Such as the Khan river. Which feeds the Swakop and made it flow until the plots 20km away from the ocean.
Time for us to check it out and play in the mud. The guys of course love driving through it and whenever the girls would say you can’t drive through that it was surely taken as a challenge. But what else for do we have a 4×4 if not to go in those areas.
Such a beauty the riverbed with water.
The river came with such a force that it filled up the dam. Swakop lake. A huge playground for the swakopmunders. Kayaks, jet skis, paddle boards and other toys got brought out to the dam. So much fun for us. Even if you just swim in it. You don’t feel like you live in a desert anymore. It’s amazing. And then the full moon is rising. Indescribable.
